In a selfless effort to demonstrate the amazing potential of wind energy by snowkiting across an entire US state (North Dakota), Sam Salwai, Jason Magness, and Paul Cassedy ended up doing something more... proving themselves. Today they completed a nearly 300 mile trek across the frozen terrain of North Dakota, from Canadian border to South Dakota. After guiding the crew across more than half of the state, Sam Salwei dislocated his arm and lost control of his left deltoid muscle... a grusome testament to the extreme conditions that these guys were kiting under. Sam joined the media support/educational crew for a few days, while Jason Magness and Paul Cassedy proceeded on. South of New Town, during a windless spell, they decided to alter their course to walk/kite directly southbound. Over the last eight days they've covered over 122 miles to reach the South Dakota border. Having first attempted the kiteboard crossing of North Dakota last year, the crew noticed open water and less snow this year. This influenced their decision to proceed walking southbound away from Lake Sacacawea, and even use kite-buggies to reach their goal. Read more about it in the Bismark Tribune.
