Here's a glimps into what went on this weekend in North Dakota... ---- Fresh Snowkite Tracks Converge in North Dakota Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, USA Wednesday, February 15, 2006 By Eric Byers North Dakota snowkiters congregated for one of the first times last weekend to enjoy the state’s steady winds, each other’s company, and the ample satisfaction that came every time a driver parked to ogle and stare. Besides slowing traffic along Devil’s Lake, experienced kiters were able to teach flying principles to interested attendees. Sunshine and a pregnant breeze made the event enjoyable for everyone. Having already claimed Minnesota, Montana, and Canada, snowkite fever is encircling North Dakota, infecting it on three fronts. The energy can be felt at the University of North Dakota. Shiver Fest was fun and hosted many differnt aspects of kiting. The show boards and skies were awsome, I even had the chance to brush up on the few skills I have. I am the guy flying the big single line kites with line laundry. I also had a 25' dia Crown being flown off 2300 pound line. Another guy from Jamestown was flying sportkites as well, he has competed on a national level for sport kite competitions. And we both build kites as a hobbie. Would like to thank Nels Nelson, for making Shiver Fest happen and bringing us together. And to Derrick Warner from Grand Forks for bringing his power kites and gear for the public to try out in front of his trailor. He does sell power kites and accessarys in Grand Forks. http://www.windpowersports.us/pages/1/index.htm Its great to see events happening in North Dakota, if you guys ever get togther and would like some of us single line guys around, give me a yell down her e in Jamestown. It was great to see those kites in the air. Nice warm day with good wind for the kiters. I started wondering if them huge single line kites were going to fly. Thanks to Mike Gee I don't think I ever seen them on the ground. Great show Mike. Heres a picture of the crew that helped make this event happen. Nels, Mike, Derrick, Steve, Phillip, and Rollie.. And thanks also to Eric and the UND students that attended. Lets do it again. See you soon Derrick windpowersports.us
