The Ozone crew just returned from the Montana Snowkite Rodeo, which was one of the funnest events of the year. Despite the cold (negative 30 temps) the wind kicked out good sessions everyday. The after party's rolled every night with live bands and Dj's. The house drink of the weekend was a new concoction called the "CHASTA", a mix of Redbull/Vodka that fired everyone up to Go Big. There was a Kitercross course on Georgetown Lake that consisted of turnpoints and obstacles like hay bails, jumps and railslides. While there were times with up to 40 kites in the sky, it wasn't until Monday that the races were held. As usual everyone had a fun time riding together on the course, and I'm sure we'll see more of these races popping up. The whole race format just seems to be more enjoyable for a wider group of riders, where the Freestyle comp format is very limited and difficult to judge.

Monday was the epidemy of a day out Snowkiting for me. The wind was up at sunrise, and I headed out for a morning soul session where I had the park to myself. As the day drew on my friends came out to ride, and then we spent most of the day racing around the obstacle course together. After a fat lunch we packed the van up and our crew headed over to MT Haggin for some terrain riding. We found a huge spot with nice southerly winds and went out to explore the mountain with our Snowkites. I could sum up this perfect session with a few choice words like untracked snow, sunshine and big air, but words cannot explain the joy of carving up backcountry pow while chasing friends up slopes and through the trees. The clencher was working my way up to the top of the hill while following Chasta thru a very technical tree filled route. Once on top we dropped our kites and enjoyed the sunset, before charging fresh lines down the untracked slope. But the session wasn't over yet, our six Frenzy Snowkites continued to float lofty airs over the natural snowpark until we were exhausted and made our way back to the roadside. Yes, that was a perfect day, and the best way to end another Montana Snowkite Rodeo.

Another great year in Montana. It was nice to have two solid locations to choose from. Both Georgetown Lake and Mt Hagin have there highlights but it doesnt really matter where you ride when you have 20 of your bros throwin down with you.
