I was curious about how wind flows over frozen lakes. Are only a select few that have perfect windy conditions good for snow kiting, or do all lakes blow a clean, decent speed wind. This accounts for both snowkiting, and kitesurfing in summer. The lakes I am looking at are in PA, land locked state. Also, who here is in PA who will be snowkiting this season? It'd be nice to have some fellow kiters. I'm in the Philly area. |

Barnes, good question... I'd say that less obstructions makes for better wind; whether it's a lake, flat field, or a bare mountain top. Some areas get better wind than others due to weather patterns. For example, Eastern North Dakota gets the jet stream flowing overhead in the winter, making for a reliable northwesterly wind December through March. As for PA... I haven't visited. Let us know how the conditions are. |

I kite on a frozen lake here in Iowa in the winters and the winds were fantastic once away from the tree lined edges. |
