Post subject:  Snowkiting Harness

Hey Guys. I am new to the forum and would like to say "howdy". I just got a new 2010 ozone frenzy and I'm looking to get a new harness. I have one season of snowkiting under my belt and i was using the dakine pyro. its a good harness it just rides up after a bit of kiting and i end up losing a bit of throw on my bar(plus its uncomfortable when it does ride up). I was looking at the ozone harness and was wondering about the 2 different kinds with spreader and the one without. I was curious if the one with the spreader bar can have the spreader bar taken off and if the d-ring is available or if the 2 harnesses are different and its either the one or the other? Does anyone know of a better seat style harness than the Ozone? thanks for the help.

Hey Tomahawk!

I've been looking into the new ozone harnesses myself as well. I will get into contact with windzup (the ozone usa dealer) and get back to you on this information. I've heard great reviews on the harness and would like to get one when the money comes around.

Check in for further details!

Hey tomahawk, sorry it took so long to get back to you

Here is what I have on the ozone harnesses

There are two years of harnesses each with two styles

The D ring harness has not changed as far as I can tell from last year and this year. Beware the D ring is located quite low on the harness. I was surprised when i tried my friends on. But i think it might be a sweet fit.

Both are VERY comfortable. The spreader bar version of the lastest year has a modification from the last years. They put the leg straps over the spreader bar to hold it down. The first model had some bar twist/hike up issues, but its been totally solved from what i understand.

In my opinion the second year of D ring or spreader bar will be your best options.

I REALLY want a 2010 spreader harness :)

Thanks Matt,

Do you know if i can buy one harness and use that harness to switch from either D-ring or spreader bar? Or do i have to pick either D-ring or spreader harness?

Thanks

unfortunately i never got an email back from the ozone guys.

Dont quote me on it, but from what i saw, the d ring harness looked set as d ring. I didnt see any extra attachment points that you could use to hook up a spreader bar.

I wish the same thing, if i could swap that would be awesome.

I love my Access snowkite harness. I come from a windsurfing background and I have always preferred seat harnesses for that. Though, for my 4m HQ Scout and Kitewing, I do use a windsurfing waist harness. I am not sure what year my Access seat harness is but I received it this past November.

I chose the spreader bar version because I read that it was the only harness that unhooked moves were possible with. But now that I have been getting familiar with a depower kite, I think that the D-ring harness would have been a slightly better choice for the beginner stages. But I would have still chose the spreader bar version for myself.

Over all, you will be happy with this harness after you figure out how to crank it down all the way.

I use this harness land boarding - got the 2010 model with a spreader bar.

I would recommend the spreader option as it allows you to hook in and out easily and is positioned at the right height - also it distributes the power better into the harness.

I was using a rock climbing harness before and although it was a perfect fit it just wasn't padded enough for long sessions.

The only complaint I have is the one size fits all design. it expands out to fit a 50" waist!! if you are at the other end of the scale you can tighten it right up and there is still quite a bit of slack - I have to wear extra clothes to make mine fit exactly. This harness would be useless for most female riders.

Once you get it fitted though its one of the best kite harnesses I've used.

I kind of agree about the size issues. Some one from Ozone needs to address this. I am a fairly big guy (5'9" 220lbs) and the harness fits perfect but I am weary about someone smaller using it. There is a petite water kitesurfer that recently moved to my neck of the woods and I need to have her try it on. The spreadder bar seems to be sized for a smaller person, and the fit problems I had at first were totally my fault for not cranking it down enough. Maybe I am just not seeing how to crank it down more. Like I said, given Ozone's lack of info on the web, someone with them needs to clarify how small this harness will go.

That said, if I ever try water kitesurfing, I would want a model with the Access feel for that too. I just think that it is the perfect harness for a kite.

I checked with a supplier:-

The three harnesses are different. You cannot change D-Ring for Spreader Bar etc.
The spreader bar is not removable. (i.e. You can't take the bar off the harness if you need to freeride.)
Apparently you can use a Karabiner with the D-Ring, so enabling easy hooking.
Note that D-Rings should only ever be used with a fully depowerable kite.
