Thinking about heading up to Worthington, MN or Spirit Lake, IA this week. Any reports on ice thickness and snow depth/quality on the lakes? |

No idea on depth or ice thickness, I will throw up a link that gives very basic depth charts in a region. Where abouts is worthington? Im in the Grand Forks, ND area, and would like to venture out |

The snow is great up here. Some places are so deep on the ice that it made walking any distance a real b. I kited yesterday in 10mph with my 12.5 Montana V. I gained some valuable experience on it since it was only the second time out with it. Today, I tried to fly my 10m "Access XT" but it was blowing 21mph with 30mph gusts once I got out into the main lake. I decided to kill the kite and walk back in for my own safety. Not to let a good day go to waste, I rigged up my Kitewing "Rage 55+" and put some skis on. My only other good experience on the Kitewing was with my mountain board. Since I just started skiing this year, I was a little unsteady at first. Then I started to get going fast. It was a blast. Now I am happy that I put the money into it. If you get one and are heavy as me (220), don't plan to snowboard on it. It never kept me going for more than 30 yards in deep snow. I suppose on a groomed or 100% hardpacked surface, it would be good with a snowboard. But it is perfect for old straight edged skis that you can get off of Craigslist for $10 each in deep snow and a flat area. |
