Well eric started the forum of where from's I'll start the what you do's! Commercial pilot, multi-engine instrument rated, training for my instructor rating at the moment while playing college student at the University of North Dakota |

Good idea Matt. I sell stratospheric balloons. Eventually I'd like to build very large kites (among other things).... We'll see what successes companies like Makani Power, Kite Gen, and SkySails have. - Eric |

Hey Eric, those large kite companies, are they involved in the power generation concept everyones talking about? Every think about getting into that? Also, did u see that someone came up with the same idea but underwater? using an turbine and a large wing shaped piece of metal. They say they would stick them in high current areas and just make figure 8 patterns all day interesting stuff |

Yeah, Makani Power and KiteGen are companies aiming to harvest wind energy with kites in order to put electricity on the grid. SkySails has the most viable business model... they use big kites to pull ocean going ships, reducing their diesel consumptions. They're already selling products (or at least testing them). I had heard rumors of underwater kites, but haven't seen them documented anywhere. The link that you posted isn't working for me... But I did look up a few videos. It looks interesting! |
