Post Skyline Backcountry Snowkite Jam
WindZup is kicking off this winter season's Snowkite Freeride Tour, with a Backcountry Jam at Skyline this weekend. The snow is falling and the mountains are waiting to be overtaken once again!

The Freeride tradition continues, gathering riders to the foremost locations to experience Snowkiting. Free 'Learn to Fly' kite clinics and demonstrations are offered for both newcomers, and veteran Kiteboarders looking to test out the latest Snowkite gear. Often flowing with Tunes, BBQ & beverages, the Freeride events provide an opportunity to fuse with experienced Snowkiters and learn the most advanced techniques. Look for representatives from the Ozone Snowkite Team at the major events listed below, and check back to weekly for current details on these and other local demos that will be popping up across the country on this winters Tour.

Dec 2-3 Backcountry Jam - Skyline, UT

A gathering of Snowkiters atop central Utah’s Wasatch Plateau. Kick off the season, sleep in the snow, & ride the wind. The ‘Learn to Ride’ sessions are perfect for anyone trying Snowkiting for the first time, and there is always plenty of expert advice flowing in the chilled atmosphere. Skyline sits at 10,000 feet and due to the elevation it is typical to have solid snow conditions by late November. Many riders make the annual pilgrimage to experience their first good rides of the year, while exploring the miles of seclusion over the panoramic views of Sanpete County. Bring a tent and bivy on the ridge or drop down the canyon to stay at the Skyline Motel, check out for details on the area.

I was at Skyline for the Backcountry Jam --- the snow depth was ideal---probably 2-3 feet. I didn't get much riding in (had to leave early Sunday).

The atmosphere was very laid back and enjoyable; birdy-blue skys and not-so-cold temps made it a good opportunity to hang with other snowkiters and shoot the breeze (and at times curse it for not being stronger). We watched all the latest snowkite films Saturday Night... 20/10 had some spectacular US footage and Entropy left us dazzed.

Did the wind pick up Sunday? Anyone out there have some good photos?

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to coming out there this weekend. A group of 5 of us from the San Francisco Bay area are coming out with Jeff Kafka (WOW kites).
